About Us

FACT Oregon is a statewide, cross-disability, family-led organization providing training, resources, and support to families experiencing disability across the lifespan. Our mission is to empower families in their pursuit of a whole life by expanding awareness, growing community, and equipping parents and caregivers. FACT Oregon is guided by principles of high expectations, self-determination, equitable access, respect for cultural differences, and the belief that disability is natural. We advocate that whole lives happen when families are involved throughout the life of a loved one with a disability and when they engage with their communities.

FACT Oregon is a nonprofit that is for families, by families. We maintain connections with 21,000 parents/caregivers and community partners in all 36 Oregon counties. All leadership and peer-to-peer programming staff are parents of a child or young adult with a disability, an important consideration as it lends shared experience and personal credibility in 1:1 support calls and family trainings. FACT Oregon has aserved as the Office of Special Education Programs’ parent training and information center [PTI] since 2012 and the Oregon Department of Education’s PTI since 2013.

FACT Oregon's mission is truly about empowering families experiencing disability through all aspects of their lives. This mission transcends special education into other aspects of life and community. Our Whole Life Campaign includes engaging families early to help them dream big dreams and pursue whole lives for their children. This means planning for a life defined less by disability and system services than by purposeful community building, person-centered planning, and activating natural supports that are authentic to each family's needs, background, and culture. It includes empowering family advocacy to create systems change, providing resources for future planning and transition to adulthood, sharing best practices, giving empathetic peer-to-peer support, and visioning a future of possibility and equity together.

Our programming lens recognizes the complexity of raising a child experiencing disability, particularly in navigating multi-system services. We offer parent-to-parent support that is genuine, empathetic, and educational, while honoring parents/caregivers as experts on their unique children. We have become highly skilled at promoting an informed, person-centered, collaborative approach which transcends special education into other areas related to disability. These include inclusive recreation, disability awareness, becoming a welcoming school/community/business, community building for families, navigating disability service systems, and transition to adulthood, employment, and supported housing opportunities.

FACT Oregon has earned a strong reputation for quality training, responsiveness to community need, peer-delivered support, and dedication to removing barriers for families who are non-English-speaking, or are from rural, historically under-served, and/or marginalized communities. Our connections with families, expertise in inclusive best practices, peer-to-peer support, and collaborative reputation are sanctioned by 200+ partners statewide.
